Addressing the skills gap in Nigeria’s Oil & Gas Industry
CWC School for Energy has combined forces with Levmora Services Limited, a Nigerian energy consultancy and business solutions provider, to drive a Nigerian talent powered oil & gas industry.

The joint initiative to bring training programmes to Nigeria aims to build industry and human capacity and promote the economic opportunities in developing a local supplier base and working within Nigerian Content provisions alongside the Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board.

The world of oil & gas has changed dramatically over the last 10 years. There are few places where this is more evident than in Nigeria. Nigeria’s production averages 2.5 million barrels per day and has proven reserves of 36 billion barrels. The International Energy Agency predicts that demand for energy will grow by 40 percent by 2030 and Nigeria has set itself a target of achieving 4 million barrel of production by 2020. It has become more important than ever for the industry to find new ways of increasing production. To truly meet this need the sector must look to attracting, developing and retaining talent in Nigeria.

Patrick Murray, Head of Learning & Development – Africa for the CWC School comments: “The School recognises the many challenges in ensuring sustainable growth and development of local content in Nigeria, a key one being the skills gap and developing talent in Nigeria to meet the demands of increasing production. Our training courses are highly specialised and aim to complement the skills learnt at University. By providing industry-led training that is set within the unique context of the Nigerian oil & gas industry we seek to accelerate the learning curve and fast track talent. Providing our courses in Nigeria will make our training more accessible to the local industry and allow local recruitment rather than expatriate staffing and help to meet the Local Content provisions.”

In recent years many Nigerian players have taken part in CWC School for Energy programmes annually including NNPC, Chevron Nigeria, TOTAL, Oando, Afren, NLNG, Brass LNG and more. Previously, Emmanuel Majoki Ikani, Head of Monitoring & Evaluation at PTDF commented on the Oil & Gas Mini MBA, “There is no doubt that this programme will impact greatly on my delivery of strategies and leadership improvement in my workplace.”

Currently some 8,000 students have benefited from CWC School for Energy’s highly specialised certified training courses across the globe. It has given the opportunity to gain real experience to take back to the work place and instrumental in improving their employability.

Funmi Marinho, Director of Joint Venture, Levmora Services, explains: “We are extremely impressed with the high quality training that CWC provide and delighted to have teamed up with them. The School can be very proud of the work it is doing to both address the skills shortage but also help people gain employment within the sector.”
